A relaxing, eclectic, resorative retreat, the Silver Street Studio has an ambient charm which is hard to beat. With a fascinating history, this well known icon weaves together many a story within South Fremantle. Originally built as an artist's space, then gallery, it has now been thoughtfully converted into a wonderful environment for short term accommodation. On arrival we give you a bottle of fine Wesern Australian wine, local chocolates, flowers, Margaret River olive oil soaps, plus a breakfast hamper for your first morning. Besides fruits, this contains local jam, WA roasted coffee beans, gourmet teas and freshly baked bread from our local german bakery.
It is the perfect place in which to relax, and to escape the pressures of contemporary living, whilst being within instant reach of 'all things Fremantle' from 'your own home'.
For those who need to keep in contact with the working world, there is a seperate living space equipped with desk and broad band internet connection.
Enter the property through a small wooden door within a 'medieval' gate. Ivy trails over high limestone walls which seclude a lush courtyard garden shaded by a plane tree, poinciana, palm, olive, weeping mulberry, and grape vine.
Huge glass sliding doors connect this leafy outdoor area to the main living space. The Studio has been constructed from large local limestone blocks, magnificent one hundred year old timbers from 'Rob's' (South Fremantle) Jetty, and other items of memorabilia, including the turret, which was rescued from the old Swanbourne Hospital.
The downstairs space is open plan, has a well equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge. Rugs, furnishings, and the character of the architecture create a lovely ambience.
The upper studio level, originally used for producing ceramics, is now reached internally via a steel staircase. The bedroom area has a comfortable queen size bed, supplied with quality bedding and white linen sheets. A small mezzanine connects to the bathroom, and the upstairs lounge/study area. A single sofabed is available downstairs for a third person if needed.
This upstairs room opens onto a north facing balcony which makes a lovely breakfast spot in the cooler months. It is also reached via a limestone stairwell connecting to the northern courtyard area below.
The downstairs store room houses our two mountain bikes which can be made available on request.
A superb location
The Studio is very private, yet centrally placed and near all facilities. Two hundred metres from Fishing Boat Harbour - a short walk to South Beach and/or Cental Fremantle.
Ideally situated, we are also close to a variety of great local restaurants, a supermarket, galleries and specialty shops. These include the Colonial Antiques/ Tea House, the Fremantle Chocolate 'Factory', a popular German bakery, and more - all within 100 metres.
You won't need a car. On arrival in Perth, the Airport Shuttle Service can drop you off at our door in South Fremantle. The free CAT bus service runs every ten minutes from the end of the road, taking a circular route around Fremantle via various sites of interest, stopping at the railway station for those wishing to travel to Perth by train.
You can borrow mountain bikes on request and explore the many cycle and walking tracks which follow the coastline (Click on 'gallery' and scroll down to our location map.)

Enjoy the beach, the range of water sports, cafe life, art galleries and other local attractions. These include the New Maritime Museum, Fishingboat Harbour, the Round House, Fremantle Jail, a convict built underground canal system, Fremantle Markets, Rottnest Island (ferry terminals), local fishing spots, whale watching tours, Fremantle Arts Centre (the former convict built asylum), the Fremantle night life, and more.
You can of course, just sit at 'home', listen to music, watch TV/a DVD, play chess or find a really good 'read' from our large selection of books - and relax.
